The People’s Budget Project

The People’s Budget Project brings community voice to the center of New Orleans’ most important decision by

BUILDING KNOWLEDGE

Educating people about how the City gets and spends money, so they can make informed decisions when making their voice heard.

BUILDING VOICE

Creating a simple, fun, and impactful way for residents to participate in the budget process, using the same data that City leaders use, through the Big Easy Budget Game.

BUILDING POWER

Together, we are better! We compile the results of the Big Easy Budget Game into the People’s Budget, and use it to advocate for a more equitable allocation of YOUR tax dollars.

Why care about the budget?

The City Budget is a moral document— where we spend our tax dollars is directly related to our city’s ability to provide services. Linking real dollars and city departments to the things New Orleanians see and feel in their communities every day makes wonky civic budgeting real: potholes get filled, parks get programming, and our streets get safer.
